Proudly a family run business…

Carla & Dylan Taylor – Directors

Carla and Dylan were given the opportunity to take over the business in May 2018, just a few months before their first child Hudson was born. This was a very testing time for them to filter through the life of business owners and first-time parents. Their second child, Cheyse, was born in 2020 during the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. Another very testing time for them! Carla and Dylan have both grown up in family-owned businesses and rely heavily on the assistance of their parents to guide them through the challenges involved with running a business with a young family.

In the early days of FNQ Health and Fitness, Carla was the only Exercise Physiologist and they employed one Pilates instructor. While Carla was off having Hudson, they employed some part-time staff to cover her role. Moving forward to today, FNQ Health and Fitness employs four Accredited Exercise Physiologists, one Accredited Exercise Scientist, three Personal Trainers/ Pilates Instructors and three reception staff.

FNQ Health and Fitness offers a range of services and classes at various times. During the day, majority of the services offered are one on one appointments with the Exercise Physiologists. This can be through private clients, GP management plans under Medicare, Department of Veterans Affairs, National Disability Insurance Scheme, Work Cover, Aged Care Packages, and various Insurance agencies. The classes range from rehabilitation and clinical based focus, right through to Pilates and general health and fitness. Check out our timetable for the available classes and times!

Most services and classes are run out of our clinical rehabilitation gym in Atherton. FNQ Health and Fitness’ services to branch to home-visit style sessions in Mareeba, and an outreach clinic in Ravenshoe once per month.

Exercise Physiologist

Hi, I’m Carla one of our Exercise Physiologists here at FNQ Health and Fitness.

I studied the 4 year Bachelor of Clinical Exercise Physiology degree at James Cook Uni in both the Cairns and Townsville campuses, graduating in 2015. From university, I was offered a position in a physiotherapy clinic working alongside some very talented physiotherapists. I believe this flourished my passion for musculoskeletal exercise prescription as I am particularly interested in pre and post-surgery rehabilitation programs. Since having my boys, I am very passionate about Women’s health and the return to exercise post-partum. In addition, I love putting my love for Pilates to work to assist clients with their pain or condition and guiding them to improve their strength and movement patterns to live a quality life.

When not at work, I enjoy spending time with my husband and two sons as well as our extended families. I love to lead an active life through regular exercise, playing weekend hockey, and going for walks/ bike rides with my little family and to encourage our boys to do the same.
I think being an Exercise Physiologist is one of the most rewarding jobs as we have an opportunity to guide and support people to be healthy using the best medicine on the market – EXERCISE!

Katelyn “Katie” Markham

Exercise Physiologist

Hi, I’m Katie. I was born and raised in Townsville where I also completed my Bachelor degree of Exercise Physiology at James Cook University, graduating in 2018.

I relocated to the Atherton Tablelands in 2019 where my husband Kye was living. We have since gotten married, had two children and built a new home.

Outside of work hours I enjoy spending time with my family, going camping and doing functional fitness.

I first became interested in Exercise Physiology as I was passionate about exercise for health and wanted to help people. My special interests include pre and post-natal exercise, exercise for mental health as well as chronic pain. I believe exercise physiology is a holistic and natural form of treatment that can benefit many people and their health needs.

Exercise Physiologist

Hey, I’m Katia and I am one of the Accredited Exercise Physiologists here at FNQ Health and Fitness. I grew up on a fruit farm near Davies Creek, and from a young age, have always loved the outdoors and physical activity! I have always been very involved in athletics and sport and played soccer from the age of 10.

I was interested in this area of work upon completion of high school, and then went on and graduated a Bachelor in Sport and Exercise Science at James Cook University in Cairns in 2018. I continued my studies in 2019, graduating a Masters of Clinical Exercise Physiology thorough Charles Sturt University in February 2020.

Not long after finishing my studies, I started my journey as an Accredited Exercise Physiologist at FNQ Health and Fitness. I have many special interest areas, but I really enjoy working with neurological conditions. The benefits of exercise are so broad, and I love to promote these!

Outside of work, I like to spend my free time with my favourite fur friend Toby, participating in sport/gym & enjoying my Italian heritage and all the food that it includes!

Hi, I’m Lara, one of the Pilates Instructors here at FNQ Health and Fitness. I grew up on the Tablelands participating in many sports, particularly dancing and hockey and have always enjoyed being outdoors and active with family and friends.

Currently, I am studying a Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science degree through CQ University and hoping to continue to study clinical Exercise Physiology.

In 2021 I became a qualified Pilates Instructor through Studio Pilates Instructor training. This ignited my love for Pilates! I love learning and trying out new exercises on the Pilates reformer and using Pilates for injury prevention and rehabilitation. I especially enjoy learning from our Accredited Exercise Physiologists and assisting them with clinical rehabilitation classes and program development. Additionally, I love motivating and encouraging our clients through their workouts and helping them to achieve their fitness goals!

Madi Simonato

Madi Simonato

Personal Trainer & Pilates Instructor

Hey, I’m Madi!

I started dancing at the age of 3, which quickly turned into my passion. I was accepted into the Australian Ballet ITP program for 6 years. As I got older, I moved to Brisbane to attend a full-time ballet school and pursue my dream of being a dancer. Unfortunately, due to an illness that left me paralysed and having to learn to walk again, put an end to my dancing career. Due to this illness, it ignited my passion for fitness. I am now an Accredited Group Fitness Trainer, Barre, Pilates and Personal Trainer.

I love my job at FNQ Health and Fitness, I love working and meeting all of our amazing clients and being their to support them through their fitness journey!

Personal Trainer

Hi, I’m Taylah! I’m a born and bred Tablelands girl. I graduated from high school in 2021. While in high school, I completed my Certificate II in Recreation and Certificate III in Fitness before commencing a Bachelor degree in Sport and Exercise Science at CQ Uni. Sport has always been my passion, but unfortunately due to injury I have been forced to ‘Retire’!

My interest in Exercise Physiology and Rehabilitation arose following my own experience with sporting injuries, surgeries, and rehabilitation programs from playing Netball over the years.

At FNQ Health and Fitness I am one of the trainers of our group fitness classes. You may also find me assisting the Exercise Physiologists during their clinical classes.

Hi, I’m Judy, one of the reception staff at FNQ Health and Fitness. The second youngest of 8 children, I grew up on the Tablelands. Married for 34 years and have two beautiful adult children. My number one interest outside of work is my beautiful grandson, Hugo. I also love gardening and spending time with my family.
